Reflection Week 9 - 24/05/19
Today is the last Friday
for the Manaiakalani DFI course. The day began with Karakia - connecting with a
great group of educators and then the www session. Then we filled the feedback
to the Manaiakalani Education Trust form.
In the Connecting with
Manaiakalani Pedagogy and Kaupapa we had discussion about Ubiquitous
After that we had a session
with OMGTech! (Trailblazers workshop). They are a charity that teaches kids to
innovate with technology
In the deep dive session we
had intro to the future of tech and what it means for our tamariki and Ethics
and Morals of machines. We also had discussion on what do we value about
ourselves and what do other people value in us that makes them willing to offer
us jobs.
Then we had discussion
about Artificial Intelligence, robots and driverless cars and its implications.
Driverless cars were tested in NZ in 2007 at Tauranga. We also had discussion
on introduction to the ‘Discipline language’ of Digital Technologies. Algorithm
is a list of instructions for computer to follow. We had a practical session to
start off learning about algorithms and debugging.
In the levelling up session we signed up online at https://kiatakatu.ac.nz/
After lunch break we
started with an Hour of Code exercise followed by coding in scratch.
Today’s session was very
helpful for increasing our computational thinking and also using the skills
learnt effectively in our classes. Scratch programming is very interesting to
use and code and it will surely generate lot of interest in students.
My sincere thanks and
appreciation goes to the Manaiakalani Education Trust and my school
Administrators for giving me the opportunity to attend this DFI course and
up-skill myself with using the digital technologies. Special thanks and
appreciation to my two facilitators Dorothy and Gerhard.
